How an exhibition
becomes public.
Museum announcements, closing reports, catalogues and collection archives preserve different parts of an exhibition’s history.
The announcement
An institutional exhibition page establishes title, venue, dates and curatorial framing. It is strongest when read alongside a catalogue and object records.
The closing report
A post-exhibition release can preserve attendance, final dates and international reach. It is evidence of reception, not a substitute for curatorial documentation.
The collection archive
Owner archives can preserve photographs and translated project titles that are otherwise difficult to find. Their claims remain attributed until corroborated elsewhere.
The catalogue
A catalogue can outlive the temporary exhibition and expand its scholarship. This archive records bibliographic leads without reproducing whole publications.
